Madison homicide victim identified

MADISON, Wis. — The Dane County medical examiner’s office is identifying the man shot on Thursday in what police are calling a drug deal that turned violent.

He’s 24-year-old Michael James Keith of Madison. The medical examiner’s office is calling the death a homicide. Keith died Friday at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports three people were charged Friday in Dane County Circuit Court in Keith’s death.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain tells the newspaper the shooting appeared to be a drug deal that turned violent.

The homicide was the sixth in the city this year. There were two in 2010.

The case remains under investigation.
