Woman pleads guilty to looting Naperville jewelry store during protest in 2020
A woman accused of looting a jewelry store in downtown Naperville during a night of unrest has pleaded guilty to one count of burglary.
Vanessa C. Grimes, 32, of the 0-100 block of South West Street in Aurora, was sentenced to two years of second-chance probation. She will have to perform 30 hours of community service.
If she completes probation successfully, the charges against her will be dismissed.
Grimes stole unspecified items from Pandora, 119 S. Main St., around 9:50 p.m. June 1, 2020, according to the charge.
She was also originally charged with stealing clothing from Chico's, 131 W. Jefferson Ave. That charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
At least 11 people were charged with crimes when looting and vandalism happened after June 2020 protests. The protests were sparked by the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
