Inverness club share floral skills with St. Joseph’s residents

Members of the Garden Club of Inverness shared an afternoon and their flower-arranging skills with the residents of St. Joseph’s Home for the Elderly in Palatine, on Monday, March 18.

Residents and club members spent two hours of one-on-one creativity punctuated by laughter, punch and cookies. After creating the spring floral straw bonnets from silk flowers, greenery and other materials supplied by the club, volunteers took their resident back to their room to hang their creation.

Sally Hilgendorf, garden therapy chairwoman, organized the event, which is held annually. She was assisted by club members Carol Benande, Linda Denison, Joan Greenfield, Carolyn Grosch, Jo Guerrero, Sally Hard, Barbara Hidding, Cathleen Laskov, Eileen Mahoney, Terry Pagliuzza, Barb Parquette, Joyce Piazza, Jane Rateike, Rose Schneider, Diane Sever, Janet Sholiton and Beth Woldman.

The Garden Therapy Committee will be helping at St. Joseph’s on Saturday, April 27, making flower arrangements for the tables for the residents Mother’s Day Tea and also on Monday, June 3, to work with residents to plant two table top planters and tomato pots.

Garden therapy projects are sanctioned by The Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc., and National Garden Clubs, Inc. of which Garden Club of Inverness is a member.
