Cat, dogs find new homes at Aurora free adoption event
Nearly two dozen cats and dogs in Aurora found their forever homes last weekend.
The Aurora Animal Care and Control hosted the "Christmas in July" free adoption day on Saturday, July 15.
The line formed early and wrapped around the building for the first-come, first-to-adopt four-hour event.
All adoption fees were waived during the event, and mandatory city registration was free.
Prices normally range from $75-$200, depending on the age of the canine or feline.
Adults and children interacted with their new pets before finalizing the adoption.
At the end of the four-hour event, more than half of the adoptable pets at the facility were placed with a permanent family.
To help prevent the loss of pets, Aurora Animal Care and Control also offered free microchipping on the same day.
Owners brought in an additional 80 cats and dogs to receive microchips.
