Letter: Give kids time, space

Thanks for printing Roy Eappen's guest column on transgender legislation. Adolescence is hard but it is far harder for a kid dealing with all the changes of those years plus gender confusion. What kids in this situation need is to know they are loved and accepted as they are in the moment, without judgments about gender and adults pushing them to meet standards. Restraint is so hard for grown-ups who want to fix kids who seem to be floundering. Kids need someone to listen without getting unasked-for advice. I went through raising five adolescents as a single parent and I remember the time well.
