Weber named starting QB at Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota coach Tim Brewster has decided on a quarterback for the upcoming season.
Brewster says senior Adam Weber will get the nod for the Golden Gophers in the season opener against Middle Tennessee State on Sept. 2.
Weber has started 38 games in a row for the Gophers. But he struggled last year as Minnesota moved away from the spread offense. He had to beat out sophomore MarQueis Gray and freshman Moses Alipate to retain the job.
Brewster says Gray will be the backup and Alipate the No. 3 quarterback when the season opens.
The coach says Weber's command of the offense, leadership and overall performance in spring practice earned him the job.
Weber holds Gophers career records for completions and yards passing.
