Wanted: Houses seeking curb appeal for Paint-A-Thon

The Des Plaines Health and Human Services Division announce the 26th annual Community Paint-A-Thon will be Saturday, Sept. 7.

While the date is a long way off, applications are now available. If the exterior of your house needs to be painted due to peeling, fading or worn paint, consider applying. The program provides for the painting of the exterior of single family homes at no cost to those who qualify.

To qualify, homes must be owned and occupied by people with limited financial resources and the owners must be at least 60 years of age or have a permanent disability that hinders them from doing the work themselves. Once a home is determined eligible, volunteer teams are matched to do the scraping, priming and painting of the house. The Community Paint-A-Thon covers 10 townships including Barrington, Elk Grove, Hanover, Maine, New Trier, Niles, Northfield, Palatine, Schaumburg and Wheeling.

If you or someone you know could benefit from the communitywide project, please contact Catholic Charities at (847) 253-5500.#
