Pipeline would ease economic stress
Conceding the right of Ms. P. Denise Israel to her opinion (April 9) about the “dirtiest, most carbon-intensive fossil fuel on the planet,” I would direct her attention to the more than 679 overlapping (read duplicated) renewable energy program expenditures currently supported by our federal government. The information is available at GAO.gov. They have not, as of today, lowered our almost $4-a-gallon automobile fuel prices. Tar sands would be remarkably difficult to move through that giant XL pipeline for such a long distance.
We need to deal with the reality of our world as it exists now with scientific responsibility, not rhetoric. Everyone wants a clean environment — I do, especially. The ability of people of lower income to pay their fuel bills would also enable them to put food on the table. What a novelty!
