Fire damages Uptown Cafe in Arlington Heights

Roofing materials caused a fire at the Uptown Cafe in Arlington Heights Wednesday afternoon, according to firefighters.

Lt. Mike Perkovich of the Arlington Heights Fire Department said the fire occurred around 2 p.m. on the roof of the restaurant, located at 24 E. Miner St. It was extinguished in about 30 minutes.

“They had some roofing work done prior to the fire,” Perkovich said, adding that roofers were not on the job at the time of the fire.

There were no injuries, and everyone in the restaurant evacuated by the time firefighters arrived.

Perkovich estimates the cost of damage to the building was between $80,000 and $100,000. He said the restaurant will be closed until some repairs are made.
