Lets Start a Fire!
Over the past years many Chicagoans have probably noticed the little attention the Chicago Fire soccer team has gotten. Some people probably don't even know they exist up until now. They are most likely recognized by leaving soldier field and given a stadium less than half the size of soldier field. In contrast, the Fire has had good numbers throughout their seasons. Compared to the other clubs in the MLS, Chicago Fire has had many international soccer players in their rosters. Players like Jorge Campos, Hristo Stoichkov, Cuauhtémoc Blanco or U.S born players like Chris Rolfe and Chicago's own Brian McBride. Now, in the recent years there are many more international faces in the league like Torsten Frings, Tim Cahill, Juninho, Robbie Keane, and Thierry Henry. Players that have made history with not only their clubs in Europe but also in their international teams. All of these players in different MLS teams but the problem being that the Chicago Fire has lost their lust. There's no more stars and it is now filled with new faces many of them being rookies. However the team has signed a television contract with Chicago channel “my 50 Chicago.” But it looks to be very hard to promote the team now that they don't have famous faces. Something that other teams are having no problem doing, making it harder for Chicagoans to root for the fire. This problem is still hanging since its barely happening, although teams like L.A Galaxy and N.Y Red Bulls spend money on marquee players. With the money the Chicago Fire has gotten from the new contract and from the players they have sold, the Chicago Fire can pick them up now before it loses the little fans they have.
