Woman robbed at gunpoint in Elgin

A 24-year-old Carpentersville woman was robbed at gunpoint in Elgin Tuesday night by a man she describes as a longtime friend, police said Thursday.

The 27-year-old man told the woman he was having money issues during a conversation they had in her parked vehicle on Addison Street near Gifford Street. He asked her for a loan, which she refused. After an argument, the man opened the passenger door, grabbed the woman's purse and attempted to leave, but when she resisted, he pulled a semiautomatic handgun from his pants pocket and told her he was taking her purse, according to a police report.

The victim let go, and the man left the vehicle, walking east on Addison Street toward Hill Avenue.

After returning home, the woman received a call from the man, who said he wanted to meet her at the Walmart on Randall Road to return the purse, but she refused, reports said.

The man is described as black, about 6 feet 2 inches tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black hoody-sweater, a black sleeveless vest coat and dark blue jeans.

The woman's purse contained a wallet with about $1,800 in cash, four credit cards, a driver's license and a state identification card, police said.
