Help me make sense of tollway plan

You gotta love Lafleur.

The Illinois Toll Authority’s director, Kristi Lafleur, was asked about the authority’s 2012 agenda by the Daily Herald’s Marni Pyke.

Lafleur had explained that the doubling of tolls would allow the authority to extend the Elgin-O’Hare Expressway to O’Hare Airport. This expressway would then convert to a tollway. We now learn from Ms. Lafleur that the extension will cost an extra $300 million that “ ... officials say they expect surrounding communities to cover ...” perhaps “with some type of additional tax.”

So the ever-expanding toll system will double our tolls, convert an existing freeway into a tollway without community consultation and expect the community to be taxed to cover the extra cost.

Isn’t government wonderful?
