Clarifying residents' Quentin Road preference

This is in response to your April 8 article, “Preckwinkle to visit Palatine council.” As major stakeholders in the corridor in favor of the Quentin Road rebuild project, it is irresponsible of you to report that “residents . . . prefer the stretch of congested roadway through the Deer Grove Forest Preserve be widened to just three lanes instead of the proposed five lanes,” as that is not the case.

Residents in the Dunhaven Woods subdivision in Palatine, who are most affected by the construction, submitted petitions supporting the widening of Quentin Road between Dundee Road and Lake-Cook Road from its current two-lane section to a four/five-lane section. A total of 200 signatures were obtained, representing 90 households out of 112 properties in favor of the proposed four/five-lane option with turn lanes at residential streets and at Camp Reinberg. Of the remaining households, six opposed, two abstained and 14 were unavailable.

To clarify further, the majority of the conservationists, who oppose the project, do not live in the area that would be affected. The four/five-lane plan is based on the recommendation of licensed engineers contracted by the county and meets the 2030 Federal Highway Administration and IDOT guidelines in order to utilize the $3 million already allocated to replace the severely aging 100-year-old bridge over the Salt Creek Basin. Please check your facts and report responsibly!
