Cops say Batavia man made fake police report on self

A Batavia man is charged with felony disorderly conduct after police said he made a phony 911 call that implicated himself as a criminal.

At 12:04 a.m. Tuesday Batavia police received a call reporting a man displaying a handgun near Randall Road and Main Street. The caller described the man, the vehicle he was in and the direction the vehicle was traveling.

Police found the vehicle in the 200 block of Lake Street and contacted its owner, Mychal A. Escamilla, 19, of the 200 block of Lake. They determined he did not have a gun, and cleared the call.

Police said they later discovered Escamilla had made the call as a prank.

He was arrested Wednesday, posted $1,000 bond and was released from custody, police said.

Felony disorderly conduct — the filing of a false police report — is a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in prison if convicted.

Escamilla pleaded guilty in 2010 to a felony charge of criminal damage to property from a September 2009 incident in Batavia, according to Kane County court records. He was also ticketed in 2007 for truancy and illegal possession of tobacco by a minor.
