Hanover Park police win technology award
The Hanover Park Police Department was selected by the International Association of Chiefs of Police to receive the IACP/iXP Excellence in Technology Award for 2011.
The department was recognized in the Innovation in Information category for creating a secure database that allows police personnel to access documents, intelligence bulletins, email and other important information from their squad car, office desktop and home computers.
Police Chief David Webb said the technology was critical to successfully implementing a new community policing initiative, and played a big role in reducing the part 1 crime rate in 2010 to its lowest level ever recorded. The award, which is open to law enforcement agencies across the globe, was presented June 14 at an annual conference in San Diego.
