Police say man threw boiling cooking oil on 2 others

An Elgin man has been arrested on charges of throwing hot cooking oil onto two men earlier this week, police said Friday.

Deandre L. Lindsey, 22, of the 100 block of South State Street, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a caustic substance, a Class X felony that upon conviction of one of the charges, carries a prison sentence ranging from 6 to 30 years.

Police say the three men were inside of an apartment in the 100 block of State Street Wednesday night when, for unknown reasons, Lindsey threw a pot of boiling oil onto the two men.

The oil hit both men in the face and arms, according to court documents.

One of the men was treated and released from Sherman Hospital while the other man’s whereabouts were unknown.

Lindsey’s bail was set Friday morning at $500,000, which means he needs $50,000 cash to secure his release from jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.
