Softball: Hampshire stuns Crystal Lake South

Hampshire's softball team pulled off a mild Fox Valley Conference upset Wednesday, defeating second place Crystal Lake South 12-2 a day before the Gators take on league leader Huntley.

Morgan Haefling led the offensive charge for the Whip-Purs (11-10, 6-6) with a double, triple and 4 RBI while Delaney Rummell had 2 hits with a double and an RBI. Also contributing were Gwen Malecke (2B, RBI), Sarah Bowen (2 hits, 2B) and Miki Snider (2 hits, 2B, RBI).

Jasmine Lopez allowed 4 hits and had 5 strikeouts and 4 walks for the win in the circle.

Christina Toniolo had a home run for CLS (17-5, 9-3), which fell 2 games behind Huntley in the FVC race.

Huntley 1, McHenry 0: Huntley (20-5, 9-1 FVC) won by 1 run for the second day in a row as Autumn Kasal's single in the bottom of the sixth inning drove home Tiffany Giese, who had 2 hits, with the winning run. Giese tossed a 2-hitter for the Red Raiders with 6 strikeouts and no walks.

Dundee-Crown 7, CL Central 0: Sydney Ruggles allowed 6 hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks and added 2 hits with a double at the plate as the Chargers (15-10, 11-4) won in the FVC. Claire Weeks (2 hits), Deanna Origer (2 hits), Andrea Conway (2B, 2 RBI), Cassidy Randl (2 RBI) and Megan Thompson (2 RBI) also produced for D-C.

Jacobs 8, Prairie Ridge 5: Kerri Healy (3 hits, 3B, 2 RBI), Katie Armstrong and Savannah Svedman (3 RBI) each hit home runs for Jacobs (11-9-1) in its FVC win. Jess Mrzlak (2 hits, RBI) and Gaby silva (2 hits) also contributed for the Golden Eagles. Armstrong was the winning pitcher.

St. Charles North 13, Elgin 0: Anastasia Pappas and Gracee Ellis combined on a 2-hitter to lead the North Stars (13-7) to an Upstate Eight River win. Pappas also had a double and an RBI and Ellis a double while Jess Wilson (2 hits, grand slam HR), Danielle Trumbo (2 RBI), Lindsay Sawicki (2 RBI) and Alyssa Domaracki (2 RBI) also contributed.

Geneva 10, Streamwood 0: Ali Dierks threw a 1-hitter and had a double at the plate for Geneva (18-5, 11-3) in the UEC River. Sam Keller also had a double for the Vikings.

St. Charles East 18, Larkin 3: Elliott Sanders had 4 hits and an RBI to lead the Saints (18-6) to a UEC River win. Also producing for SCE were Alex Wooten (2 hits, 2B, RBI), Maddie Candre (2 hits, 2 RBI), Alena Macri (3B, 2 RBI), Paige Ligocki (3 hits, 2B, HR, 3 RBI), Brooke Byas (2 hits, 2B) and Madelyn Rouse (2 hits, 2 RBI), who was also the winning pitcher. She allowed 5 hits and had 7 strikeouts and 3 walks. Liz Bowman had 2 hits for Larkin.

West Aurora 11, West Chicago 1: Janae Holloway had 4 hits with a double and an RBI as West Aurora (12-10) won this UEC Valley game. Gabi Nilles (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Sophia Delgado (2B, RBI), Emma Boland (2 hits, 2B, 2 RBI), Payton Lundberg (2 hits, RBI) and Mariana Stinson (2 hits, RBI) also contributed for the Blackhawks. Eternity Gonzales was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6 innings.

Burlington Central 7, Woodstock 3: Reili Gardner had 3 hits with a triple and 2 RBI for the Rockets (12-5) in their Kishwaukee River win. Julia Barnes allowed 4 hits with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 innings for the win in the circle.

Westmont 11, St. Edward 6: Ashley Miller (2 doubles, 2 RBI), Chloe Davies (2 hits) and Hannah Dorley (2 RBI) led the Green Wave (10-10) in a nonconference loss.

South Beloit 7, Westminster Christian 5: Rachel Schmit had 2 hits and 2 RBI, Grace Schmit added 2 hits and Kristen Mason had a double and an RBI for Westminster (3-10) in its Northeastern Athletic Conference loss.
