Credit union association hands out scholarships

Submitted by Consumers Credit Union

Six Lake County area high school students were recently awarded six $1,500 scholarships by Consumers Cooperative Association, the sponsor of Consumers Credit Union.

The students received their scholarships at the joint annual meeting of the two organizations in mid-March. Each recipient may use the scholarship at the college or university of her/his choice.

The 2013 scholarship winners include Julia Bauschke of Grayslake North High School, Alyssa Sheppard of Antioch Community High School, Rodney Lambright II of Jerome I Case High School, Jordan Draegert of Wauconda High School, Miranda Gomez of Grayslake Central High School and Andres Samano of Cristo Rey St. Martin College Prep.

“The association takes great joy in helping today’s youth achieve their goal of higher education,” noted Elizabeth Oldham, Consumers Cooperative Association president.

“In this day and age, it is important that our young people of the community do all they can to give themselves an edge to make a more significant contribution to their community. We’re confident our winners will use the funds wisely and look forward to hearing success stories as they pursue their goals and dreams.”

“There is no better investment then the one made in a young person’s future,” said Sean M. Rathjen, CCU president. “Consumers Cooperative Association’s Scholarship Program provides an opportunity for today’s students to begin their journey toward a college education. The association understands how critical it is that we support our young people in this endeavor and, thanks to their assistance, the youth of today have a chance to become the leaders of tomorrow.”
