Algonquin working on cul-de-sacs

Algonquin Village President John Schmitt said the village’s streets division staff did a “fantastic job” working through the storm on Tuesday night and early Wednesday to clear snow from village streets.

“I got out at 6 a.m. and my street was clear down to a skim coat of snow,” said Schmitt, who lives near village hall. “Our only concern was people with snowblowers that would blow the snow back on to the street, so we had to redo some of what was already done.”

Schmitt said he didn’t receive any complaints from residents. No power outages were reported, he said.

Algonquin Public Works Director Bob Mitchard said all the roads had been plowed by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. “Now we have to go back and widen everything out, especially the cul-de-sacs, there is just so much snow in some areas,” he said.

Village hall at 2200 Harnish Drive and the public works building at 110 Meyer Drive serve as warming centers for those who need it, Schmitt said.

To make up for the village board meeting canceled on Tuesday, village board members will meet briefly on Tuesday, Feb. 8, before the regularly scheduled committee of the whole meeting at 7:30 p.m.
