Foster wasn't hiding from us

In response to Dan Boland's letter, published Dec. 15, I strongly disagree with Mr. Boland's implication that Congressman Bill Foster did not want to meet with his constituents during the health care reform debate.

In my experience, Foster is extremely interested in hearing the thoughts of the people he represents, and I've been very impressed with his grasp of the issues.

The fact is that Rep. Foster was able to reach, literally, tens of thousands of individuals with his telephone forums. Unless he had held a town-hall meeting at Soldier Field, the congressman could not have accomplished more to get our thoughts before casting his vote on health care. In my book, that is the mark of good representation.

Rep. Foster has proved himself to be an extremely accessible representative who regularly returns to the district to meet with his constituents. While I don't agree with him on everything, I know that Foster made the best of his time and ours to listen to us.
