Des Plaines Garden Club wins awards
The Garden Clubs of Illinois, Inc., District IX, at its 34th annual meeting, held March 12, awarded the Club Horticulture Award, Gold Seal Certificate Award to the Des Plaines Garden Club, which was accepted by garden club horticulturist, Bob Nicholson.
To receive this award the club must have regular horticulture programs at monthly meetings, hold a plant sale and do a club plant exchange. The club participates in Earth day, plants and maintain a Butterfly Garden to name a few activities.
Also presented was the Club Achievement Award, The Purple Rosette, which was accepted by Alice Bigelow, the Des Plaines Garden Club president. This award was received for outstanding overall club accomplishments in regards to membership, flower show, horticulture and civic projects, youth activities, donations to projects and programs as well as many other projects.
Bob Nicholson also received the Master Gardener Award for participating every Monday at the calling desk at the University of Illinois Extension Service. Eleven garden club members attended this meeting.
