Kairos Family Center in Elgin elects new board
Submitted by Kairos Family Center
The board of directors of Kairos Family Center in Elgin has elected new officers for its new fiscal year. Elected to the position of board president is George Dewey, who previously held the position of vice president.
Elected to the office of vice president is Dan Schlack. Other officers elected are Dr. Harry Channon as treasurer, and John Ellison as secretary.
Ellison has been the board president for several years but is relinquishing the position to Dewey due to the demands of his job. After the election, Dewey lauded the work that Ellison has done in guiding Kairos these past years.
Dewey said that he will strive to maintain the high standards of leadership that John Ellison has established.
The mission of the Kairos Family Center is to provide affordable family counseling on a no-wait basis to the people of the Elgin and surrounding areas.
Kairos was established by two mental health professionals (Arnold Woodruff and Paul Brownell) and a church minister (the Rev. Bill Clark).
These three saw a need for an affordable counseling center in the greater Elgin area. In 1977, they established the Kairos Family Center, 240 Standish St., as a nonprofit agency to provide this counseling service. Since then, Kairos has been in continuous operation to provide this service.
