Hoffman Estates police host ‘Take Back’ prescription drugs event
Residents are welcome to dispose of their expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs at the Hoffman Estates Police Department, 411 W. Higgins Road, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
This will be the sixth “Take Back” unwanted prescription drug event in three years that the department and the Drug Enforcement Administration have teamed up to present in an effort to prevent pill abuse and theft.
No liquids or needles will be accepted at the event. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash may pose potential safety and health hazards to the public.
