Third-period flurry can’t save Wolves
SAN ANTONIO — A third-period flurry wasn’t enough, as the Chicago Wolves fell 4-2 to the San Antonio Rampage on Saturday night at AT&T Center.
Center Andrew Ebbett notched the only Wolves goal, while Matt Climie stopped 20 shots.
The first period was scoreless, with San Antonio (25-25-1-4) outshooting the Wolves 9-6.
Climie had not allowed a goal since late in the first period on Feb. 24m but Rampage center Greg Rallo ended the streak at 10:19 of the second period when he redirected a shot from the point by defenseman Zach Miskovic.
The Wolves (27-18-4-3) tied the score in the third period when right wing Darren Haydar fed a pass to Ebbett, who redirected the puck past goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris at the 4:23 mark.
But the equalizer didn’t stand for long. Rampage center Zach Hamill scooped up his own rebound and beat a sprawled-out Climie (15-15-2) on the stick side at 9:36 for the game-winner.
The Wolves continue their four-game road trip, visiting the Texas Stars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
