Kalinowski leads Round Lake hall of famers

Former Daily Herald All-Area football player Jason Kalinowski headlines Round Lake High School’s 2013 athletic hall of fame class.

The class also includes former Panthers football great Bob Coon (1957), Lee Neer (1977, basketball), Rusty Sclichtenmeyer (1968, baseball), Bob Swanson (1994, track), Coach Pat Coon (Tom Wittum Award), Ray Collis, Bob Olson, Charlie Olson and Joe Olson (Friends of the Panthers), the 1972-73 boys basketball team and the 1996 and 1997 dance teams.

Kalinowski, who graduated in 2002, starred at linebacker and offensive line for the 1991 Panthers football team that went 6-4 and earned a berth in the Class 6A state playoffs. That is the last time Round Lake qualified for the postseason.

Kalinowski went on to play at Carthage College. In 2010, he received the Gurnee police department’s officer of the year award.

Round Lake’s hall-of-fame dinner will take place Saturday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. at the Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center. Tickets go on sale at RLHS, April 8. Cost is $35. For more information, please contact Howard Conkling at hconkling@rlas-116.org.
