Remembering Georgeff's Secretariat call

Regarding your article by Mike Spellman on Friday, Oct. 8th regarding Phil Georgeff: Phil was probably the one track announcer who put excitement into every race he called, whether a low claiming race or a rich stakes race.

However, how many people who were not at Arlington for the Secretariat race in 1973 remember that no one could hear his call of the race while watching the race on television because the network showing it (I think it was ABC) stupidly chose to have a network announcer (I think it was Chris Schenkel) interview Penny Chenery throughout the entire race?

If anyone wanted to hear Georgeff's call they had to catch it on a news or sports show later, which weren't as plentiful as they are now.

By the way, Phil was right about Citation.
