Fire damages Libertyville condo building

Libertyville firefighters put out a fire Sunday morning at a condo building under construction.

Assistant Fire Chief Michael Cloe said the fire occurred around 7:30 a.m. at 607 N. Milwaukee Ave. It took place in an entranceway, he said.

The building itself already has functioning ground-floor retail, including an Egg Harbor Cafe. Cloe said those eating breakfast at Egg Harbor had to be evacuated.

The fire was put out shortly after firefighters arrived. Crews conducted smoke evacuation on all three floors, opening up windows and setting up fans to blow out the smoke.

Cloe estimated damage at about $5,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
