Two men have been charged with the Sunday shooting death of a Zion man outside a Round Lake Beach convenience store.

Jose M. Garcia, 18, of the 600 block of Deepwoods Drive in Mundelein, and Jose Rebollar-Verara, 24, of the 500 block of North Carol Lane in Round Lake Park, were arrested Monday and charged with first-degree murder.

Police believe an argument that began inside the convenience store on the 1000 block of Fairfield Road spilled outside before a gun was pulled and Gabriel Gonzales, 19, was shot and killed.

Gonzales was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead at 1:52 a.m.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force joined the investigation and helped lead police to Garcia and Rebollar-Verara, said Rich Chiarello, Round Lake Beach deputy chief.

“They were taken into custody without incident,” Chiarello said. “The major crimes task force played a significant role in developing those leads in bringing a successful conclusion to this unfortunate tragedy for the family who lost their son.”

Both men will appear Tuesday morning in bond court in Waukegan.
