Get your scarecrows ready for St. Charles’ annual festival
The 28th annual St. Charles Scarecrow Fest takes place Oct. 11-13 in downtown St. Charles. This family-friendly, fall festival, which is produced by the Greater St. Charles Convention and Visitors Bureau and Ravenswood Event Services, continues to be a popular autumn tradition among residents and visitors of all ages.
They are now seeking participants to take part in the Scarecrow Contest. Scarecrow decorators will compete in one of six categories: mechanical, traditional, whimsical, St. Charles business, children’s club/organization, or family.

Scarecrow Fest is also inviting local bands, dance troupes and other performing acts to serve as Additionally, St. Charles restaurants are encouraged to participate in the Scarecrow Fest’s Great Tastes of Greater St. Charles, highlighting the cuisine of local restaurants. Famous for its unique scarecrow displays, each year Scarecrow Fest features an array of activities and events for everyone to enjoy. The festival’s most popular events are back again this year including Make Your Own Scarecrow, Fun on First, Windy City Amusement Carnival, Great Tastes of Greater St. Charles, and the Autumn on the Fox Arts and Crafts show in Pottawatomie Park.
In 2012, Scarecrow Fest attendance was estimated at around 120,000 over the course of the three-day event. In 2011, the festival received national exposure on NBC’s Today Show, which highlighted the event as one of the country’s top five fall festivals. It has also been recognized multiple times as one of the “Top 100 Events in North America.”
