Books Between Bites looks at ‘Pride and Prejudice’

Submitted by Batavia Public Library

Batavia’s monthly noontime book program, Books Between Bites, continues with Diane Capitani Thursday, March 21 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

This year’s “One Book, One Batavia” selection is Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” This timeless comedy of manners has delighted generations of readers, and continues to inspire new interpretations even today. 2013 marks the 200th anniversary of the publication of “Pride and Prejudice.”

Capitani will explore how Mr. Darcy got his money, why Elizabeth would have turned him down if money was an issue in her family, and the idea that money — not love — is what makes this novel’s plot keep turning.

Capitani, director of the Writing Center and Affiliate Faculty at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern University, serves as the outreach director of the Jane Austen Society of North America-Greater Chicago Region.

The public is invited to attend these free programs and reservations are not required. They are held in the large community room on the main level of the Batavia Public Library. Parking is available in the lot just south and adjacent to the library.

Attendees are invited to bring their lunch and eat as they enjoy the program and discussion. Lunch items, beverages and baked goods can be purchased at 10 South Coffee House, inside the library and adjacent to the meeting room. To pre-order for pickup just before the program, call (630) 406-8870.
