New wound healing center open in Des Plaines
Holy Family Medical Center in Des Plaines recently opened a new Wound Healing Center at the hospital located at 100 N. River Road.
The center caters to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and wounds that haven’t healed within 30 days.
Its physicians, nurses and technicians have been trained at the National Healing Institute at Ohio State University. The center provides treatments including negative pressure wound therapy, bioengineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. It also will offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen at higher than normal atmospheric pressure as the patient relaxes on a bed encased within a large see-through plastic shell.
Patients may have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and multi-center studies. For more information, call (847) 813-3388 or visit http://hfmc.reshealth.org/sub_hfmc/hfmcservices/wound_care.cfm.
