More plans for Chicago’s Pullman retail project
A business development aimed at revitalizing Chicago’s historic Pullman community is entering its next phase.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel on Saturday announced plans for a $45.8 million retail complex at the Pullman Park site on the city’s Far South Side.
The area is home to historic properties associated with the company that made the luxurious Pullman Palace Sleeper Cars. The neighborhood in the late 1800s was the first planned industrial community in the country.
Emanuel says he hopes to see the area once again become a driver of economic growth.
He says the 11.5-acre development is expected to create 300 permanent jobs.
It will house a national chain clothing store, a fitness center and smaller retailers.
The $37 million first phase involves a Walmart Supercenter expected to be complete this spring.
