No injuries in Batavia house fire

No one was injured in an early morning fire Tuesday at a home in the 700 block of Young Avenue in Batavia, fire department officials said.

The fire started on a rear wooden deck after hot coals from a grill, that had not burned out, dropped through the grill's vents and smoldered on the deck.

When fire crews arrived on the scene just before 1 a.m., the deck and house wall was on fire, officials said. The fire had also extended into the basement.

The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, officials said. Departments from North Aurora, Geneva, Fermilab and St. Charles assisted.

The fire caused about $75,000 worth of damages, officials said.
