Fire at Batavia factory
A machine caught fire at a plastics factory in Batavia Saturday, causing about $25,000 in damages, authorities said.
No injuries were reported. The Batavia fire department responded to the fire at Amcore Rigid Plastics, 1300 S. River St., at about 7:45 a.m.
Fire officials said a machine that sends plastic bottles through an open flame caught fire after a number of plastic bottles became jammed.
This caused a back up of plastic bottles that melted and spread burning plastic along the conveyor belt, which also caught fire.
A news release said the machine operator had left the immediate area at the time of the accident.
