Government giving isn’t road to heaven
The nice lady from Libertyville who wrote that Christians should not in good conscience support Paul Ryan or his budget is perhaps a little confused.
Heeding New Testament admonitions to care for the sick and the poor surely will facilitate one’s arrival in heaven. But, governments don’t go to heaven, and neither do socialist politicians who feign generosity by using other people’s money.
Charitable giving is a profoundly personal sacrifice. Looking forward to an eternal reward for simply acquiescing to outrageous levels of taxation is a long-shot.
