Lombard Fire Department Responds to Structure Fire, No Injuries Reported
LOMBARD, Illinois—The Lombard Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 604 Green Valley Drive yesterday. According to Lombard Fire Chief Paul DiRienzo, firefighters arrived and discovered burning holiday decorations in the living room of the single family house. The resident discovered the small fire surrounding burning candles. The fire was quickly extinguished and the damage was contained to furniture. No injuries were reported. The fire was called in by the resident. The home had working smoke detectors.
The Fire Department reported that candles can contribute to many fires through the holiday season and strongly encourages that candles be kept away from combustible decorations. Ideally, candles should be burned in glass containers. The Fire Department also reminds residents to extinguish candles before leaving your house or retiring to bed for the evening.
