Ind. Guard unit returns after 8 months in Iraq

INDIANAPOLIS — About 115 members of an Indiana National Guard unit have been reunited with their families after being deployed to Iraq for about eight months.

The soldiers from the Franklin-based 219th Battlefield Surveillance Brigade arrived early Thursday at Stout Field in Indianapolis.

Guard leaders say the soldiers conducted reconnaissance and surveillance operations while in southern Iraq since March.

Sgt. Steven Elzy met with his wife and others during the return ceremony. He tells WTHR-TV that it was great being able to keep in touch with family over the Internet but that being back with his family means everything.
