‘Blind eye’ a problem throughout society

I’ve always thought that the Penn State program was honorable and special because of Paterno. Early in this scandal I thought everything was probably overblown. Then I heard the allegations. They made me sick to my stomach.

I grew up in Champaign-Urbana. As a kid, I used to hear things about the sports programs and athletes down there all the time. Hundreds, if not thousands of people had to know what was going on at Penn State. Shame. We really are predisposed to turn a blind eye.

I agree with everything Barry Rozner said in his sports column from Friday and, really, every day. He is insightful, smart, and has his values and heart in the right place. The travesty that has allegedly taken place at Penn State is symptomatic of larger problems with the NCAA and society as a whole.

Thank God people like Barry aren’t afraid to speak, speak up and speak their minds, and thank God that the DH isn’t shy about letting their reporters do their jobs.
