It wasn’t sign that delayed traveler

Mr. Scheu of Forest Lake gave me a jaw dropping chuckle with his “complaint” Nov. 4 that he was almost late for his flight from O’Hare because Long Grove has only a stop sign at the corner of Old McHenry and Robert Parker Coffin roads.

Mr. Scheu, either you have not traveled in years, don’t read or listen to the news often, or don’t heed the ever-present warnings from the airlines about the appropriate time to arrive at the airport before your flight.

It has been drummed into our heads for years to plan to arrive at the airport two hours before your flight. You indicate that you left your home at 8:30 for a flight at 10:40. On a normal day, that trip could take 40 minutes in travel time alone before you even allow for parking, check-in and security.

In addition, the local papers have warned for months about the construction in Lake County, hence the additional traffic trying to avoid construction around routes 22, 45, 60, 83, etc., which I can rightfully assume added to the traffic going through Long Grove.

So, common sense tells me that the only person to blame for your almost being late for your flight was your own lack of proper planning. To state that you will now “boycott any fests and businesses in Long Grove” because of this is very humorous.

In the future, learn to plan your travel by being aware of the what’s going on around you.
