If yes, please explain: noCandidate's Key Issues Key Issue 1 We need to further the economic development of the Village of Lake Zurich. The Village offers a great community experience for its residents but it has failed to deliver on the promise of bringing development to the downtown area. While residents love the community experience, they are being forced to go to other nearby towns for restaurants and shopping. We need to fulfill the commitment to make our Village vibrant, prosperous, and competitive.Key Issue 2 Fiscal responsibility. We need to instill discipline in the financial management of the Village starting with our annual budgeting process. We need to consistently live within our means while continuing to bring the service to the community that our residents expect and deserve.Key Issue 3 Operate the Village with service to our residents being the #1 priority. Residents need to feel that the Village cares about their needs and its ultimately there to serve them. This includes operating with transparency and inviting our residents opinions and insights.Questions Answers What is your position on what needs to be done to jump-start downtown redevelopment and how soon does this need to get happen? We need to get aggressive about marketing the Village and the opportunities it offers to developers and demonstrate our willingness to work with them to effectively implement economically sound development plans. Developers need to know that the Village is "open for business" if they have a plan that will benefit the Village and its residents. This means aligning the Village departments such as Building and Zoning to ensure they are ready, willing, and able to partner with developers to efficiently move them through the planning approval and inspection processes. We need to demonstrate we are striving to develop the Village versus making it overly difficult for plans to be approved and developers to work with the Village and its departments. I would also fully support the continuation of the RFP process to fully vet the developers and their accompanying proposals. Its important to keep the process competitive and not limit our experience to that of a few developers. What are your views on any kind of financial incentives to attract future development? Do you have any concerns about offering breaks in the wake of those recently received by the developer of Mariano?s?We will need to continue to offer financial incentives to be competitive with other communities. There is no way around that if we want to see meaningful development come to Lake Zurich. If we don't offer them, we will see more development and businesses go to other nearby communities. Having said that, I will work to ensure that economic incentives are structured in a way that benefits both the developer and the Village. We shouldn't shy away from negotiating the time frames, amounts, and/or the purposes of the incentives. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed? Conversely, is there something that should be reinstated or have resources directed toward? This will be a question that will have to asked and answered in each annual budgeting process. While I don't have any specific targets in mind right now, we need to ensure this isn't something we do in only tough economic times. Being responsible with our residents' dollars shouldn't be a sometimes thing. We owe it to them to ensure we are instilling fiscal accountability in all departments within the Village. At a minimum, we need to ensure our budget prioritizes the critical services the residents expect and deserve. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?As part of the economic development of the Village, I would like to look at other opportunities to get more out of our public properties such as Paulus Park. We have a large piece of lakefront property there that is largely under utilized today. I believe our residents would welcome further development of that property for recreational and entertainment purposes. I would recommend the development of an advisory board of residents to look at this opportunity and generate ideas that they feel would benefit the Village and its residents.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed. In talking with my fellow residents, I have not heard any real concerns regarding public safety. Personally, I believe residents feel safe in Lake Zurich and feel the police and fire department do a great job protecting our community.
