Person struck, killed by train in Lombard

A 20-year-old Lombard man was struck and killed early Wednesday by a freight train in his hometown, police said.

The Union Pacific train was westbound from Chicago to Los Angeles about 2 a.m. when the incident occurred near St. Charles Road and Chase Avenue, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said.

Crew members said they saw the man run in front of the train, Davis said.

Union Pacific provided crew members with counseling following the accident, Davis said.

The train was delayed until 5:45 a.m. while police and Union Pacific officials investigated.
