Music and art transcend cultures
It is beyond fathoming to me that someone would be offended by a Christian song in a dance recital. This type of thinking in my mind is what separates the many vast, lovely and interesting cultures in our world.
My daughter has been in chorus for many years. Her chorus teachers have always chosen songs that transcend many cultures, religions and languages. I believe that they are chosen simply because they are beautiful music, and they speak to the audience on so many levels.
It does not matter what nationality or religion you are or the nationality or religion of the composer, author or artist.
Music, art and great literature can speak to the soul. They can and should be a bridge to other cultures The park district owes no one an apology. To start banning music or great art or books because of it's religious or cultural tones seems to me that is a slippery slope that we do not want to go down here in the United States. There are already so many things that divide our world. Great music, books and art can help unite us.
