Budzban: Lessons from today help us achieve future dreams

“Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the desert …”

— Exodus 15:22 (NIV)

Many people find a starting point to establish new goals and pursue bigger dreams. While others don’t see how anything new or different can come their way.

Sometimes we feel like we’ve been wasting our time, and spinning our wheels in a dead end place and that we’re destined to stay there. But if we do our best to learn all we can where we are, God can bring about new beginnings to change old things we haven’t even dreamed of.

The biblical prophet, Moses, was a great example of this. Moses spent 40 years of his life living in the desert herding sheep, and protecting his family from the dangers of the desert. It took wisdom to understand how to live in the dry conditions of the desert. To survive the knowledge of how to be well-hydrated, and stay protected from the ill effects of the scorching hot sun was necessary. Dodging the dangers of snakes and scorpions, were among the needed survival skills, as well.

Forty years later, God called him to take his knowledge and go to Egypt and bring the people out of the slavery. Moses didn’t see how he was the man for this job. However, Egypt was surrounded by miles and miles of hot, dry desert sands; there was no way out, but to travel through the desert. God used Moses’ 40 years of desert dwelling to master his survival skills. Now he was an expert and able to use his expertise to lead others though the dry places. I doubt Moses ever realized his days in the desert would be the means God would use to fulfill a dream.

There have been many times I couldn’t perceive how what I was going through would make a difference later on down the road. I felt as if I was just trying to survive the moment.

But in hindsight, it was clear how God used the things I learned in new and exciting ways. I use many things I’ve learned to help other people grow and mature spiritually. How about you? Do you feel like you’re getting nowhere fast?

Take some time to reflect on how much you have achieved and how you might use whatever you’ve learned.

Then, ask God to make known to you all the potential you have stored deep inside your hearts, and watch him bring some wonderful new insights and creative ways to use them.

You can discover dreams you’ve never known before.
