Indiana Tech dorm OK’d despite neighbor’s concerns
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Indiana Tech is moving ahead with a three-story dormitory in Fort Wayne following a local board’s approval of the $4.3 million project.
The Fort Wayne Plan Commission voted Monday to allow Indiana Tech to proceed with the dormitory, with minor changes in response to complaints by a neighboring property owner who had tried to halt the 100-student dormitory.
The Journal Gazette reports the panel says the college must put in buffers, likely trees, to provide some privacy for property owned by Richard Kriz II.
Kriz’s attorney, Thomas Niezer, argued last week that the dormitory project would violate state building standards by not paying “considerable regard” to his client’s property location. Niezer had urged the plan commission not to approve residential rezoning required for the dormitory.
