Illinois taxpayers a laughingstock

My husband and I live in Del Webb Sun City in Huntley. There are approximately 5,000 homes in the community. All I can say is, shame on the politicians of Illinois.

The state can’t afford to pay their bills, yet 10 politicians were named on the news that receive six-figure incomes and also have accumulated in excess of $1 million in retirement funds. One actually said she was embarrassed and gave some of pension back — back to where?

The seniors in my community who are receiving Social Security have not received a raise in two years. And now we received another kick in the pants. Yes, everyone received at least an 11-percent increase in their taxes. Our homes have decreased 17.5 percent in value, but the taxes have increased.

Most of the tax increase is going to the school district in Huntley. Superintendents in Illinois were in the news with their salaries and their pensions. Who couldn’t live on a six-figure pension plus still work and receive a six-figure income? Are we paying their retirement and salaries with this increase?

What is going on? What can we do? What should we do? Should we just sit back and keep taking it?

All I can say is, shame on all of the politicians of Illinois. I am ashamed to say I live in Illinois. We look like fools for living here. We are the laughing stock of the USA.
