Gurnee’s Warren High near end of board member search

Warren Township High School’s elected officials next week may decide who should fill an empty seat at the board table.

Charles Crowley Jr., who was first elected to the Gurnee-based Warren District 121 board in 2005, resigned in February. His resignation created the vacancy on the seven-member board.

District 121 board members are scheduled to meet Tuesday night to interview finalists before deciding who should fill Crowley’s seat. Crowley’s replacement will finish out a four-year position that’s up for re-election in April 2013.

At a recent meeting, District 121 board President John Anderson said nine letters and resumes from applicants were received for the post, with all but one arriving before the March 15 deadline. He outlined for board members the procedure he expects for Tuesday’s closed-door meeting.

“They would come in and we would have a conversation with them and we could make our decision then,” Anderson said.

Anderson suggested that three or four finalists could be brought in for interviews with the board. He had requested that board members provide feedback about the candidates to him by March 22.

Officials expect the new Warren board member will be given the oath of office at the April 10 meeting.
