Furniture chain to expand into suburbs
CHICAGO — A Michigan-based furniture retailer is planning to expand into the Chicago area, bringing about 600 jobs.
Gov. Pat Quinn announced Friday that Art Van Furniture will open five new stores in Illinois and a sixth in northern Indiana.
Art Van Furniture also plans a regional distribution center in Bolingbrook.
The stores will be located in Chicago, Batavia, Bolingbrook and Orland Park. The Indiana store is planned for the Merrillville-Hobart area.
The furniture chain will be able to get an Illinois tax credit worth $404,000 over 10 years. But the tax credit is available only if the company meets its commitments to create jobs and make a private investment of nearly $5 million to open the Bolingbrook warehouse.
Art Van Furniture is based in Warren, Mich., and was founded in 1959.
