Icy conditions slow morning commute

Slippery roads and sidewalks are greeting commuters throughout the area, which has led to slow travel times as well as closed roads.

Travel times are higher than average throughout the area, and people should give themselves plenty of time to commute.

In addition, Naperville Road in Wheaton — between Warrenville Road and Butterfield Road — has been shut down after power lines covered in ice broke off, authorities said. ComEd has been called to the scene.

The freezing rain advisory will remain in effect until 10 a.m., when it will warm up enough to melt the ice, officials said.

There’s also a chance that an inch of snow could fall overnight with lows reaching about 27 degrees.
