Elgin Kiwanis to hear about state's financial woes

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin recently announced that Ralph Martire, who serves executive director of the Center for Tax and Accountability, will be the featured speaker at the weekly Kiwanis Club meeting at noon Tuesday, Oct. 11.

The Center for Tax and Budget Accountability strives to be the pre-eminent source for objective, honest, reliable, and relevant analysis of state and local tax and budget-related issues. Martire will provide an overview of the financial issues facing the state of Illinois and will explain how ineffective tax policies have contributed to Illinois' current budget crisis and what changes might alleviate education, social services and pension funding issues.

Martire's engagement is underwritten by state Sen. Michael Noland.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 91st year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. The club sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year, raising funds to donate to local agencies serving children. Weekly meetings feature programs on topics of interest, ranging from sports and politics to local authors and the arts.
