Veteran touched by Cub Scouts’ respect
During the recent Arlington Heights Memorial Day parade I was standing at the curb watching when a group of Cub Scouts marched by. As the Scouts were passing, the Cub Master looked at me and asked, “Are you a veteran?” I nodded “Yes.” (I had served in the Air Force in 1952-1960.)
At that point, the entire Cub Pack stopped marching, turned toward me and saluted, saying, “Thank you for your service.”
It was an honor for me, but more important it was a teaching (learning?) moment for those Cub Scouts. The Cub Master was teaching the Pack respect for veterans that would continue for the rest of their lives. Good job, Cub Master!
